i remember wanting to watch this so badly with john, but never got to it. but tonight was the night. i really, really enjoyed it. so far nothing beats this corky dry humored time-traveling-related film. it was for sure a lot more interesting than the time traveler's wife, if i must be honest. i knew i recognized one of the main characters, audrey plaza, in this film from somewhere. she was the bookstore customer and babysitter from some of portlandia's episodes! super cool. no wonder she is the new favorite crush around the house. her dry humor is just plain funny. apparently jennifer and my brother really like her from parks and recreations as well; so i need to hop on that show. i realized i can use my brother's netflix to watch the show. neato.
today was the warrior dash run in hollister. i was drained since five in the morning because i had to get up for a four hour shift for work at 7-11 am so i can go to the race by 230 pm. driving at 6 in the morning felt like driving back home at 11 at night because the skies were pitch black. i wore this buttoned up polyester shirt, knitted acrylic sweater over, and a long cotton coat on top of all that thinking that today is the day that i finally get to dress up like i'm actually cold. you would think that it was beyond warm when i got there, but no, i was in full-on winter coat attire until.... i reached the inside of the building. of course. go figure. it would feel like a desert in the store yet again. so no, today was not the day to dress like i was cold after all. i helped do shipment and truck. just like that, another batch of thousands of items entered our store up and down the elevators. separating the clothes by price and department and censoring those higher priced items made time pass by quicker.
before i knew it, i was at the warrior dash ground and the race was about to start in a few minutes. my anxious, excited, but ill-prepared self was numb because it was going to be my first race with obstacles. then we crossed the starting line. we ran and ran and reached our first obstacle and it was already a muddy activity. i mean the whole entire course was muddy, but it was fun having to jump into a pool of mud and getting my shoe stuck in deep sticky mud for a quite some time. sweat built up in my eyes and my contacts wandered around my eye back and forth. it was the worst pain ever because i wasn't able to see perfectly. while i was running, i thought of the times i was in tennis games in high school where the matches got so intense that my eyes started stinging so badly. except... i was able to wipe my eyes during game times; at the warrior dash, i wasn't. so i crawled under barbed wire, hopped over wood and fire, mountain-climbed up these tall walls, ran under holes and ditches, rope climbed and all to end the last obstacle with floating through knee-to-waist-high mud that was so thick that i felt like my body weighed a few more pounds when i got out of the big finishing puddle. i grabbed my medal and poured cups of water down my face nonstop for a good few minutes to wash out the mud specks in my eyes. in the end, there was this big truck that looked like a red firetruck that sprayed water in a moving sprinkler way. everyone stood together in packs and tried to bear through icy freezing water as we tried to wipe and wash down the mud that was dripping off our bodies. the water was so cold that it hurt. after, it was a hassle to wipe down remaining mud specks here and there to change into our warrior shirts and our other extra sets of clothes that we brought. but it was so worth it. this was a race that you had to get down and dirty in, knowing that you would get mud and dirt stuck in between your finger and possibly toe nails, drenched muddy socks that could weigh down your endurance, and battle scars and wounds that could result from crawling and rolling on real hard gravel-like dirt-grounds. it most definitely was not a race for barbie girls and boys who wanted to keep cleanliness. i had a lot, a lot of fun. good news, in my age group, i came in 19 out of 156! i came for the fun of the run, and ended up with a self- satisfying rank!
after all of that, jennifer's brother let us stop by gilroy preminum outlets. i purchased colored scrunchies from american apparel and rainbow diamond socks from j.crew. so it was kind of really exciting. then we came home, ate dinner, and jennifer made vegan almond flour chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin pie bars that tasted like healthy pumpkin pie. i already know my body is going to be sore for work tomorrow. i have to get ready for another 9-hour shift- the life of a working adult.
