medical anthropology

Today, I woke up with a puffy right eye-the worst thing that could happen at 7 in the morning. I felt like my whole entire face was swollen. I was pretty much a blind man for the day, but I still made the effort to go to Anthropology because I wouldn't miss that class for the world. Luckily, I went because surely enough, we discussed interesting topics as usual. This class, we talked about the difference between disease and illness and discussed whether mental illness is a product of biological dysfunction or the product of psychological factors. (nature vs. nurture. ) So we discussed Autism and watched bits of Rain Man which features Tom Cruise as the older brother who finds out that he has an autistic brother, who is Dustin Hoffman. I got a bit teary because watching the way  Dustin Hoffman acted in the movie reminded me of the special ed kids I worked with during my senior year. I thought about how I much I cried to my mom that one time when I said it just wasn't fair how the kids I tutored at my job took education for granted while others have a much harder time trying to even focus. None of this helped my puffy right eye. I lost my appetite for yet another day.

But the day got a lot better later in the afternoon when Thomas came in while I was in John's room. I had not caught up with Thomas for weeks up until today! See, Thomas is the first friend I made on the first week of school here in Long Beach, so I missed him being around a lot in the time being. He's definitely a potential housemate.

another thing, hooray, there's a talent show in the dining hall at 9 tonight! john, gabbie, thomas, and i are going to support kurt with his guitar and patrick with his banjo!!
