goodbye first love
it was 4:10 pm and i was on psychodonuts.com and saw this film on the front page. 4:30 showtime. foreign (french) film. aw, c'mon, are you serious? study behavior of apes and monkeys later and watch french film now or forget awesome trailer and put my nose on words now.... oh what the heck. if not now, then when? so i purchased a student ticket and walked in. result of being a sucker for foreign films.
this is a bittersweet film about a 15-year old who falls deeply in love with the boy in the picture, and is forced to let go of the idea of the two of them together after years of him leaving her for an adventurous expedition he's been planning to go on since the beginning. he goes out there because he craves for the other sides of life, while she falls to her knees and cries in deep sadness waiting at home for him to continue those letters he starts mailing her. when he stops mailing, she stops checking. eventually the two separate between their own worlds. years pass, she meets someone new, and finds the architectural career to her talented capabilities, while her ex-lover continues to travel the world without her. when the two meet again, feelings develop once more due to their skin-deep love, and so forth with some complications, as you can guess. i should not reveal the ending because it's not the most sophisticated mind-boggling film, but rather a simple film that's more true to common human happenings in daily life. move on, go back, realizations, reminiscence, new beginnings, etc. hamster cycles and all. but in the end, it reminded me that it's not all that possible to change who you really are even after passings of decades, but it makes sense to put the past behind and adapt to the things around that make you act, feel, and think differently in the time being, if that makes any sense at all.
