hello, my name is jane. i am a huge fan of any kind of kettle corn, snail mail, most, if not all, coffee-flavored products, rainbow prints, long bike rides, green habitats, and animals.

this was may 3rd when me and john went running/yoga on belmont. we initially wanted to go to shillelagh for breakfast. however, their breakfast time didn't start until 10 am! yelp said 8 am. misleading-so we went to patio bistro instead because the lady persisted on having us join them in the back patio where the beautiful garden was. so we did! i asked them to customize a burrito for me. so instead of cheese and meat inside, i asked for mushrooms, spinach, tomatoes, and what not. it was so delicious! proven, that you can make anything vegan, if you just ask! :-)

i still remember how tired john was on the bus. heh, i was hecka ready, doing my jumping jacks and all when i got there! i love morning exercising that much.

so funny. every time one of us sits down in the hallway, another comes, and another, and another, so forth. then we all start lounging in the hallway talking about nothing and laughing about nothing. this is how i like my friends to be.

hot apple cider
may 4th. me and john went on belmont again. this time, for studying, hot apple cider, and terrible baritone ukelele strumming on the bluff. i just love sitting on the bluff watching the waves below brush against each other. and vanessa built the igloo in the our jigloo building on the same day. so rad, i swear.

yoga at 7 in the morning
i went to yoga at 7 in the morning by myself on may 6th. it was so relaxing. heh, i was there three days in a row, i believe. i eventually took my socks off five minutes after i took this picture. it heated up after five minutes of stretching. i sent the same picture to my mom over text.

zephyr's
same day, later in the afternoon, john and i went to the free market at bixby park, which is right across the street from the bluff on belmont. for the things that buffalo exchange couldn't take on second street, i brought it to the free market. the free market is basically an event that happens pretty much every month, and it's where everyone just brings the things they don't need/want anymore. you could choose to trade, leave it there and leave entirely, hang out, browse around, grab stuff that you want without trading, and do anything. everything's basically free! i picked up this neat pottery pot thing for future plant growing! i was super excited. john and i stuck around for some of their food. looks like it was potatoes, and.... more community-made loving food. after, we walked to zephyr's and grabbed tropical iced tea.

what happens at portfolio coffeehouse...
may 7th
this is when me and travioso went to 4th street. he wanted to try portfolio coffeehouse, apparently the #1 coffee shop in long beach. i grabbed a dairy-free iced mocha, and he tried the peanut butter mocha and... mexican hot chocolate. that day, i remember him being super inspired by the environment, and got ahead with his essay about nicki minaj for his film class. he chose to analyze how they filmed and shot frames in nicki minaj's videos. interesting. glad he got work done that day! as for me.... hmm history's not my best subject.

heavenly vegan mango ice cream! i swear, it was so delish

all of this was may 8th. me, john, and peter finally got to try the long beach vegan eatery. our friend jenny had been talking about it for quite some time and we have been reading some of the yelp reviews.  albeit the mixed opinions, the place was decent, the owners were nice, the food came out fast, and there were stickers. i'm not complaining! and it's super close by long beach state. if only i learned to bike there sooner, i could have brought everyone back vegan carrot cake more often.

may 9. when andrew offered to drive me, chai, and john to santa monica. this was why i posted the santa monica dream song by angus & julia stone when i got back that day. we literally hopped in the car and drove there in the middle of the week! it was such spontaneity and i liked every minute of it. i had studied so much sociology that day that i wanted to just do something for a break. but this wasn't a small break, heh. we went to this japanese restaurant, called musha. luckily, they had a full-on vegan/vegetarian menu separate from the regular menu. i ordered the buddha feast, but it was too salty for my taste. but regardless, the place had really nice presentation. the service just took a bit longer because it was so crowded, so it was understandable. in the mean time, we head our own room, so the four of us played question games, circle k stuff, how school was coming to an end, and all that jazz. that day was definitely a big highlight of may. the santa monica pier is such a beautiful place to visit.

pita and chickpea hummus
favorite fruits
give me a yes please. this was may 10th, the next day. for lunch, i left my sack lunch in the dorm, so i as usual, when that happens, i go to the beachwalk cafe. that particular day, i ordered the pita & hummus. i wanted to try their hummus flavors. they mashed chickpeas, garbanzo beans, and i think lemony things together. really yummy. i had some fruits in my bag, so i ate them along with my pita. i had such a luxurious lunch in the food court. i remember sitting in the corner of starbucks listening to... one direction. haha no shame.

me and john finally went to shillelagh for breakfast/brunch. i ordered their special peanut butter and banana waffles and asked for it to be made vegan. the peanut butter was so light and creamy- i kind of thought it was a dream because it was so sweet but healthy. john seemed to like it a lot as well. i fell in love with the syrup because i stayed away from it for such a long period of time.. except for that one time i poured a little bit into my veggie bowl at zephyr's. i just have a bad sweet tooth. then john ordered the veggie burger and had soy cheese and soy bacon, and he seemed to really enjoy that as well. we shared fries together. of course, i dipped the fries into my syrup... then the person who worked there gave us free peaches because a local had dropped some off for them! so nice of them to share it with their customers.

may 18-the last day of school. i finished finals around 8:30 that day. me and john had plans for disneyland after in the afternoon after moving/checking out of the dorms. but instead, we decided to go to costa mesa, to the lab/the camp where we have the most fun together. we went to native foods for dinner and used our awards cards for free drinks. we mixed their three flavors-watermelon, lavender lemonade, and native iced tea together again and again. we were so full off the drinks itself. we spent quite a bit of time in urban outfitters, as said from that 50 % end-of-the-month sale. it was just a really fun night with one of my best friends from college. scattergories is a hella fun game when you make up your own rules and challenge your opponent to something entirely different. i ran into a friend from 8th grade in the gypsy den cafe, so that was neato as well. john got to officially meet my parents, and from there, we said our goodbyes. oh, i also purchased the hurraw green tea lip balm from american apparel. it's organic, raw, vegan, anddd it smells amazing!  :-)

the night of the last day, i spent hours talking to my mom about what i've been up to with this whole vegan project/goal i set for myself, and she was all ears. the next morning, she fixed me this simple fruit plate in the hotel, and i was so thankful. heh, she knows me well.

on the seven hour drive back to norcal, my mother and i talked most of the way, and it was something new. i usually get in the car, fall asleep, and stay quiet or listen to my ipod. but this time's drive home was a bit different. i shared with her what i said in my animal rights persuasive speech. she read some of my saved documents and researches about veganism and what not. she shared some of her own experiences as well and we talked about a whole bunch of things. we stopped by gilroy, and i went to american apparel and purchased the hurraw grapefruit, almond, and chai lipbalms. i couldn't help myself. the workers there were so kind.

dinner at home
then i visited my grandma on the same day, when we got back around 6 pm. for dinner my mom fixed this up for me. it was kiwi, tomatoes, tofu, brown rice, steamed broccoli, steamed cabbage, and veggie soup with tofu fish nuggets. i thanked every moment and every bite!

may 20 : maker faire
i had gone with kevin, aleksis, and jimmy to the maker faire on sunday. i came home to all these natural organic ingredients on the counter. my mom went to the farmer's market, trader joe's, and other markets to buy all of the groceries and ingredients that she thought i'd like. i was so touched that day because my mom is just so sweet. she said this was all to welcome me home. she went all out with the spices because she said she was super excited to try different recipes. i told her i wanted to try cooking and all that, and she said, "well, the kitchen's going to be shared among me, you, and jennifer." i just smiled and felt all warm and fuzzy inside. haha, i am so corny. my apologies.

afternoon- i packed for seattle

late afternoon- we biked to the lightrail, and went downtown. we grabbed dinner at the good karma, and it was so delicious as usual. i treated both of us to slices of amazing chocolate pie. it was so creamy, i swear.

night-stopped by the mall and picked up some socks at h&m, came back and did some last minute packing, watched two episodes of secret life on hulu, and fell asleep.
