today was an eventful day! or should i say yesterday. i went downtown with the gang and we finally got to try a neighborhood vegetarian/vegan friendly restaurant, shillelagh , for lunch. oh my goodness gracious, i swear, their housemade veggie patties are like no other! it was so worth the money. they have this really cute cat that "kind-of-belongs-to-the-restaurant" and his name is ham! it has really fierce eyes. i'll show a picture soon. but as for the quaint restaurant itself, me and john absolutely cannot wait to go back for some quality breakfast time. their adorable back porch is to die for! i just know my mom would feel the same way. plus, places that can make any dish vegan most definitely deserve one of those facebook like thumbs. :-)
for rest time, we went to berlin and i grabbed a small cup of iced coffee and had a semi-sentimental talk with thomas and angela. then i walked next door to fingerprints and grabbed three hand-picked albums i've never heard of in the discount section. as usual, there are always interesting surprise finds. i really seem to like one in particular, and it's called minotaur shock because it's all instrumentals. i picked it up because i was reading the mini-text and a list of various instruments caught my eye; so i got super excited!
here's one of the tracks that i enjoy. it's soothing. listen closely.
for dinner, peter came and wanted to vent so me and john listened at steamed, an organic vegetarian house (a place me and john have been dying to try). most of their dishes cost around $9.95, but i promise, they are well worth the price. today's choice of self-serve water was apple orange and cucumber lemon. yum! i ordered the burrito in a bowl and requested for whatever i wanted and they put a hint of vegan cheese, and it was surprisingly delicious! john and peter both got the grilled tofu plate and it had brown rice mixed with seasoned veggies and their choice of either peanut or curry sauce. all were equally mouth-watering.
before getting back to school, peter drove us to whole foods and i bought some baking ingredients and some pretzels. then i went to the cafe and tried putting more ideas together for my persuasive speech. luckily travis helped me expand on the thoughts that thomas and i came up with earlier on the bus in the afternoon.
it's now 5 in the morning and i am still up. heh, i have been up since about 2 in the morning after lounging around for an hour with travis and christian in the common room messing with juan on travis's facebook in spanish. i decided to come back to my dorm and start washing dishes. one glass jar led to another glass cup to another bowl and so forth. then i decided, hey why not, let me just start these no-bake flourless, microwavable oats/almond chocolate-chip cookie recipes. i used the tsp and tbsp measurements and threw in vegan chocolate chips here and some soy milk there, and then i remember rolling the results into little snowballs. there i had it going, and here i am three hours later, kind of exhausted, now ready to go to bed with the snowball cookies tucked neatly and safely inside the fridge.
gosh i hope they taste good to others. i guess we will have to see. i tried three different recipes. i'll list them tomorrow when i post the pictures!
p.s. the room smells like i seriously pulled out some freshly baked cookies! heh but little do they know..
goodnight? or good morning
