thursday night: my dad finally gave me consent to go back to live in my own room. the painting was dry and all things were ready to be moved back in. everything was in a pile of mess. so i spent all night trying to webcam with my long beach friends and decorate and rearrange things around. i finally did so and finished at 3 am.
friday: i woke up at 7 am to get ready and shower to pick vincent up because we agreed to go to coffee in the morning. so i picked him up at 8 and we went to peet's. i ordered a soy cappuccino and he ordered a soy latte. then we went back to my house to catch up on the latest episode of awkward. after watching awkward, we went to downtown san jose just for the san jose institute of contemporary art specifically for the new reusable bag display. we snapped quick photos and i drove him back home and went straight to the eye doctor for my check-up. the eye doctor and i talked for quite a long time about college changes. who would have thought that of all people that i chose the eye doctor to converse with for more than a few lines?

this current exhibit is called "city beneath the city" by rene yung. it's about looking beyond the silicon valley specifically in the past of downtown san jose, beyond facts that we as a part of the community may not have known a whole lot about until today. says "on this site on may 4, 1887, a mysterious fire, deliberately set, destroyed san jose's chinatown. this was the largest chinatown south of san francisco, a community of bachelors and their families..." see, someone like me would have had no idea until further readings and understandings. inside, you'll see many artists bringing their art in the theme of forgotten histories through buried artifacts and other objects in ties of technological, agricultural, cultural, political, and geographical realities. if you visit this current exhibit, you'll see that from one display to another, it ranges from asians' old and current lifestyles to the topic of this nation's presence of immigrants."the gaps, the silences, the unknown, are an integral part of the weave and patterning of the work" says artist yung.
i personally really enjoyed browsing through each artists' words and art, and i will definitely go back to pick up on pieces i didn't get to finish exploring and analyzing. this exhibit is until the 16th of september. take a visit!
anyhow, after my own quick visit to the gallery, i went home to iron-on more prints on the leftover curtain fabric and just made little gifts for people for no reason. i got my inspiration from free people as always. i took thread and wrapped it around different parts of backyard branches a million times.

tiffany came and picked me up around 7 pm, but there was so much traffic, so we bought tickets for the 10 pm show to moonrise kingdom (yep, my second time!) it was just as incredible. i bought kettle corn. i haven't had popcorn in a theater in a long time and i was in the appetite for a small snack.

i came home and was so exhausted that i fell asleep.
today i woke up and believe it or not, i spent all day making things. from taking fallen leaves in the backyard and painting over them to make prints on cardstock to cutting out silhouettes of birds and deers and taping them to the wall just above a piece of thread to making more threaded branches and hanging jewelry on it to making kim's late birthday card gift and more, it is now 8:30 my friends. I spent about 11 hours making art, cleaning up, and clearing my desk. i really need to get to studying for my phsyical anthro exam.

i am not satisifed with my room, but that's the best part. i realized that my room is my project. i'll keep adding different things i make and think of every now and then and try to change things around so i can treat it kind of like different exhibits in a museum (except my room can nowhere be compared to a museum!) but i'm happy.
